In Inkcape, how does one save an svg file as a jpg file for later use in Gimp or elsewhere?

I don't think it's possible to export to jpg directly. I always export a png and then convert it in the GIMP or using ImageMagick. One of the benefits of png is that it supports transparency.
You can also export to other formats using 'SaveAs..', however I don't think jpg is one of the available formats.
Thank a lot, Richard. Sy

Hello,
Inkscape can export PNG files that you can then import into GIMP for further work. JPG is IMO not needed (I don't even know if JPG export is planned) because PNG is much more superior: it has a lossless compression method and it supports transparency (better quality + more versatile).
:)

JPG is needed, but not a priority (there is a long time open RFE in the tracker about this, [1]), just as an example, you may want to publish your raster export to a hosting site allowing only JPEG (like http://picassaweb.google.com). Sure, is easy to convert to JPEG using another program, but it would nice and time saving to have and the way to address this (gdkpixbuf) is already known.
