Well, that question would make a lot more sense if you could describe use cases that make such a cursor necessary.

If you have rulers enabled, it shows in the rulers where the cursor is positioned... so with the visually seeing the cursor on-canvas and the moving marks in the rulers, it serves the purpose for me at least.
Note: If I'm really looking for precision, I use the spinbuttons in the selector tool or the xml editor... you can't beat the precision of manually typed numbers.
