How to upgrade to Inkscape 0.46
Greetings
Sorry, I seem to be always late to everything. Had no idea ver. 0.46 was already released. Is it fully stable? Could you please explain me how to upgrade to 0.46? Do I have to uninstall 0.45 and install 0.46? I'm a Windows (Vista) user. Thanks in advance.
This time you are not late--0.46 is not yet released! If you want to help with testing, you can download preview releases from:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438
or even more recent development builds from:
http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/
While Linux builds of 0.46 are looking more and more polished, several important issues have not yet been worked out for the 0.46 Windows release. In particular, printing and 'save to PDF' may crash Inkscape. There are currently more than 60 Windows-specific bugs open in the tracker, but there is a shortage of contributors to work on these issues. If you are interested in helping, search for win32 in the bug tracker and do some testing; join the inkscape-devel list; or stop by the #inkscape IRC channel on freenode.net and introduce yourself to the developers. Inkscape for Windows has a lot of users so your efforts will really be helping a lot of people!

Hi Ocetalo,
yes you have to uninstall old version before. In a perfect world the installer detects the old version and ask you to run the uninstaller.
have fun.

No you do not have to uninstall the old version, it will ask you if you want to delete the old version, if you do say yes, if not say no. I just gave it a different folder than inkscape Mine is called inkscape 46 to let me know what version I have running. HTH Bibi
Well thanks both of you Adib and Bibi I'm a little confused. Bibi, installing both versions won't bring a conflict? Just keeping them in separate folders will prevent it?

Yes, and so that I do not get confused, I left the new experimental version so that its default document in portrait style, so if it opens that way, I know immediately which version I have open, since the .45 version opens in a landscape document. Bibi
Then installing both is safe if I I keep separately. Thank you a lot Bibi. God bless you.

Now I have the Inkscape 0.46 installer, but I'd like to be sure before upgrading. Should I uninstall 0.45 and then install 0.46, or install 0.46 over, or it upgrades automatically? I don't really need to have the two versions running simultaneously. Also how's compatibility with Windows Vista going? Should I wait a little more? I'm not in a hurry ;-)
