Hi Friends, I just realized I forgot to post this on the user list (posted to dev list few days ago). In case someone doesn't know. Because InkscapeForum.com's admin has all but abandoned the forum, the Inkscape Board voted to form a committee to evaluate the possibility of an official forum (https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/message/35137071/). (Look for short News item, in inkscape.org soon.) They asked me to chair it, and I agreed. Because InkscapeForum.com could disappear at any time (for all we know) I posted a topic on Inkscape Community, where anyone/everyone can discuss what features they would like to see in a new official forum.

If anyone doesn't want to register a new account (I understand, I have sooo many passwords) they could use either the Contact form (in the menu bar near top of page), or email, and I'll post their comments for them. After 1 week or so more discussion time, or until the discussion fades away, the committee with start its work. If anyone is interested in participating on the committee, please let me know what email address you'd like to use. Anyone/everyone welcome (to post feature requests or to be on the committee) :-)
Thanks, brynn

As a feature request, could you live with forum software that can tie in with e-mail?
For example, the Sci-Fi publisher Baen has a web forum (bar.baen.com) that they tie into mailing lists (and NNTP for that matter) so that anything posted in a forum shows up on the mailing list, any replies on the list show up in the forum, etc.
They use FudForum as the web forum. It can tie into NNTP. Mailman can tie NNTP to mailing lists.
It's a bit of work to setup, and there are some things that don't translate well (polls for example), but the result is one community rather than a forum community and a mailing list community.

Hi David, I can't speak for everyone. But I'll add to the forum thread, so we can have a look at it. Thank you very much!
All best, brynn

just about everything at the bar.baen.com site is behind a (free) login. The reason for this isn't tracking users, it so that when Authors post parts of a story on the site it doesn't count as "First Publication"
there is a forum on the site that's pretty idle now that we used while working out the issues (bar bugs or interfaces have lots of info). They are also good places you can look to experiment with, the folks there will be happy to help someone else do something similar.

Just fyi MicroUgly has been active in the last couple of days on inkscapeforum.com, might be worth trying to contact him again.
