problem with clone tiling:
i cant get it to place the clones on top of each other, and simply rotate.
i have ===================================== Inkscape 0.47 pre0, build Jul 2 2009 =====================================
i want to do like one long petal of a sunflower (and then duplicate it 6 times spinning by 30 degrees each)
================ Symmetry: p1 Rows/Cols 1/6 Use saved size and pos of tile clicked ON ============= shift: everything zeros nothing checked Rows/Cols 1/6 use saved size and pos of tile clicked ON ============= scale: everything zeros nothing checked Rows/Cols 1/6 use saved size and pos of tile clicked ON ============== rotation: per column: 30 degrees everything else zeros nothing checked Rows/Cols 1/6 use saved size and pos of tile clicked ON
since it doesnt work, i changed ONLY shift: Shift X per col: -100 Shift Y per row: -100
still does not work
see attached illustration

This works for me.
Create the group, amd move the rotation center of the group to where you want it rotated about.
Under tiled clones use: 1 row 36 columns (or however many petals you want) Symmetry P1 Shift X -100 per column, all other shifts 0 Rotation, 10 deg per column.
That is it.

Also: 1 row, 6 columns Symmetry P1 "Exclude tile" marked under "Per column"
All other settings at their defaults.

Thank you for the reply: I tried what you said, and i still have the same problem
In fact, i guess it helped me clearly define my problem:
My problem is that no matter where i place the 'center of rotation', the result is the same. i can put it at the top, i can put it in the middle, i can put it at the bottom. The result is exactly the same each time.
The center of rotation is the little 'x' -actually a cross- that comes up when you click the group a second time. i drag it up, drag it down. it does have 'permanence'. . . . but when the tiling happens, it simply pays no attention to it
Thanks Kurt, I missed the exclude tile checkboxes (under the shift tab)...
IF you have exclude tile checked, leave all the shifts as 0%
IF the exclude tile is not checled, then you need to set the X shift for columns to -100%
Don't know if the list allows SVG attachments, but I'm attaching one.

thank you that attachment . . .was very good.
things work for me now. . . .
got to play with this some more

spoke to soon!
yeah, 'everything works now'. . . .AS LONG AS I USE YOUR DOCUMENT
But when i start a new document myself from scratch, things dont work the same!!
pls take a look at my svg. you should be able to edit/tiled clones and see hot it is set up,
and notice how even though the settings are identical (except 6 vs 7 columns), it just does not work the same.
For one thing, my document ignores the center of rotation. no matter where you put it,
result is same
