Call for volunteers (non-programming stuff!)

Hey All,
Volunteers needed! Do you want to contribute to Inkscape but don't program? We can still use your help!
We need volunteers for the following tasks:
Testing SVN/Nightly Build (windows and osx especially) Reviewing and triaging Bug Reports Updating Tutorials & Documentation Reviewing Release Notes for accuracy/completion Writing PR/Announcements for our upcoming release
Those are needs we always really have, but, we can always use an extra hand in the lead-up to release. Right now, if we could have a lot of attention put on our bug tracker for confirming bugs, figuring out what has been fixed, tagging things, and just getting it in better shape for the bug hunt, it will make a world of difference to the people trying to fix things.
If anyone is interested in participating, please feel free to reply, hop on irc/jabber to discuss, or just jump right to it. :) If you need any information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Cheers, Josh

Great! I'll try to pitch in where ever I can. :)

Writing PR/Announcements for our upcoming release
I have copied the PR announcement plan from 0.46 and changed the dates, and started working on the draft informal announcement. http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/AnnouncePlanning047
We will also need help translating this into other languages!
Just as important as working on the words is getting our list of contacts and sources up to date. We need to get the word out wide and far, and think creatively about how to tell the Inkscape release story, and who to tell that story to!
We can all start generating buzz by talking to people about Inkscape - posting in blogs, twitter, identi.ca - and design and drawing forums...
Perhaps add a note to your email signature like I've done at the bottom of this email...
... other off-line ideas ...
* Design posters or flyers and put them on noticeboards at schools and universities, perhaps leave some flyers at the local gallery...
* Have a local release party - perhaps there's only 1 or 2 of you in your town - but plan to get together, and look around for others who might be interested.
* Do a demo at your local user group or swap meet.
Local events to promote the release gives you a chance to publicise the release in local media...
What other ideas do you have?
cheers Donna

Hey People,
I badly need some help...
I just installed Inkscape on my new, shiney, MacBook pro, but I can't get it to work. I installed Xquartz, latest version, but A) Xquartz never shows up under my list of applications B) When I start Inkscape, it gives me the message that it might take a couple of minutes to boot the first time, but even after hours, nothing happens.
I run Mac Os 10.5.6
Do others have the same problem? How can I find out what's going wrong?
I'd greatly appreciate any help...
Maarten

You should already have a good version of X11 that comes with Leopard (10.5) - it is basically an Xquartz release - mine is 2.1.5 (the Apple system upgrades tend to be a little behind - but no matter). It should be in /Applications/Utilities and will be called X11.app. Try firing that up first before you start Inkscape. Also find whatever you have installed from the Xquartz world and maybe uninstall it as it may be creating some confusion.
Good luck - it should work just fine.

Hi Maarten,
Could you please specify which version of Inkscape you tried?
Also, can you please start up Console.app (in /Applications/Utilities) and then try starting Inkscape, then please post any error messages shown by Console.app.
As Stu says, Xquartz installs an updated version of X11.app (found in / Applications/Utilities). This should launch automatically if it is not already running when you start Inkscape.
Cheers, Michael
