Also there are times I cannot copy from one draw and paste in another. I have two inkscape windows, side by side, I copy (or cut) something from one and when I try to paste into the other draw, I get "Nothing in clipboard"...

The two windows must be from the same instance of inkscape - use file

open from one file to open another. If you open them independently

they will not be able to share the clipboard.
