Bibi,

You can do rounded, squared or mitered mats using thick strokes on duplicates of your shapes, placed behind the original filled shape. After you create the desired look, you can then use the bucket fill tool to create vector objects of the stroked outlines.

When I make a mat in Inkscape, I do my title, welding them if I want, then I duplicate that word, and use outset to make a mat, thus creating a rounded mat. Is there a way in inkscape to do squared or mitered cornered mats?
