useless rename dialog via layer dialog
If I click on a name in the layer dialog, I can overwrite it directly. If I select "rename layer" from the context menue, I get a stuped, small dialog for renaming the layer. This is not only inconsistent but also fully redundant because the dialog doesn't offer any further option except of, If you want it, the cancel button. This could be simulated with the ESC key. The key is already working but it doesn't drop the changes.

So you're proposing to remove "rename layer" from the right-click menu, because we still need this dialog for the menu command. I'm not sure I agree because the "type directly" trick may not be obvious to a user. So this would damage the discoverability of the feature.
