It's not that hard to implement. The hardest part really is solving the sparse linear systems once you assemble them, but there are libraries that can do that efficiently (SuperLU, TAUCS, UMFPACK). In terms of Inkscape I guess you'd need to add a new triangle mesh object type too. But that would be nice to have for various reasons.
