status bar reports different font/text size
Hi Friends, I just noticed something that's different in 0.91. I searched for bug reports, but did not find. But now that I'm subscribed to this list, it seems better to report here, than make a bug report, since I often seem to make duplicate reports. When I set some text to be 18, the status bar tells me it's 22.50. Set to 16, status bar says 20, etc. Is it a bug? Or is there a reason? Whatever the reason, the size the user chooses should be shown in the status bar, imo. This is Inkscape 0.91, 32-bit, on Windows 7, 64-bit. Also occurs in 0.91, 64-bit. Does not occur in 0.48.5.
Thanks for your help :-) brynn

The units for the font size are configurable in Inkscape 0.91 (see prefs for text tool), the default now is 'pt' (based on popular demand by users as the 'commonly used' units for font size) instead of 'px'.
The messages in the status bar show lengths and e.g. font size in the current document's default units (see Document Properties > Page > Default units).

Does occur in Inkscape 0.48 too, if the default units of the current doument differ from 'px' (the unit for font size in Inkscape 0.48).
The only changes between Inkscape 0.48 and 0.91 AFAICT had been a) the unit used for font size in the GUI is configurable, and b) the default unit for font size is now 'pt' instead of 'px'.
The default units of new documents based on the default template in Inkscape are still 'px' (as with Inkscape 0.48).

Thanks for the info ~suv !
It makes sense to me that the status bar should reflect the user's preference. Could this be written up as a feature request? Or is there some reason why making the status bar reporting in the units of user's preference can't be done (such as too hard, or some technical aspect that I don't immediately grasp)?
Thanks again :-)
