The contest begins today and the deadline is December 31st. As with the past few contests we've had, it is being done on DeviantART. You can find out more about it at:

What, I thought you were going to email me the announcement first before launching this to coordinate?

Hmmm... I had sent an email yesterday morning and since I had not heard back in 24 hours I went ahead and posted it to give people enough time before the end of the month. It doesn't look like it got returned either. :-/
Are there changes you'd like?

Accept entries only if they are accompanied by the original SVG! We've lost way too much time in the past waiting on a usable format. (Wish I could remember if I had any other complaints. I should write this stuff down.)

Hi Joshua,
Today's the deadline for the contest. I see there are a few dozen submissions, all quite well done. I guess there is a few hours left for last minute submissions. Tomorrow can you lead the Inkscape community through the process of selecting the top three?
Thanks, Bryce

I am heading to the airport right now to go home, but as soon as I get there I will take care of moving it forward. :)

I think all the users are reallllllly impressed by the new blur functionality of 0.45 (among many other great improvements), that's why the contributions are so great :) Thank to all the Inkscape developers and contributors for their hard work!

Maybe I'm particularly stupid after New Year but I can't for the life of me work out how we are supposed to vote (or even view all the entries).

If you view the above journal entry (link) it should show thumbnails for all of the contest entries. Is it not displaying for you? (I've checked from a couple computers at my office and it's displaying fine for me.)
As for voting, if you do not have a deviantART account, we can make this thread the place to cast votes for the non-dA members. I will link to this thread via the sourceforge archives when tallying the votes to include any placed here as well. :)
Should you be unable to view those thumbnails, please write back and let me know. Thanks!

Okay, non-dA Member vote following:
#1: 8. #2: 11.
Thanx Markus
Number 2 and Number 13.
Number 2 : The top of the mountain makes it look like the guy is frowning, but otherwise I really like it.
Number 13 : The text and fonts are not well handled, but that quill-pen ! Wow.
