Hi,
I am trying to make something like this: http://hagoschaos.de/test/ with Inkscape. I am looking for a relatively simple method to achieve this. I thought about the calligrafic tool, working with a pattern instead of a simple color. Is this possible? I don't know much about how to use patterns...
Any idea?
Regards, Hago
Couldn't you just use the gradient tool and choose radial? I now see you did both with Inkscape. If you want to fill it with a bitmap, you could just use pattern fill.
Choose object | fill and stroke from the menu, then click on the round gradient under the fill tab to get the circular gradient.
If you want a bitmap to fill it up with, choose object | fill and stroke from the menu, click on the group of circles under the fill tab for pattern fill. It will then tell you how to get a pattern set up.

Also I liked your illustrations/paintings very much. Can I buy a print? Please respond off list.

One way to get a pretty life-like "rope" is this:
- read inkscape/doc/inkscape-shadow.README and set up the bitmap blurring filter using Imagemagick
- draw a calligraphy line with zero fixation
- alt+b to make a shadow for it
- put the shadow underneath the calligraphy stroke and displace a bit
- select both image and the stroke and do Object > Clip > Set (or in an old version, convert the image to pattern and intersect with the stroke).
The result is attached (the image is downsampled to conserve bandwidth).
