Of course use Inkscape! The point of an SVG tutorial is that it's interactive, i.e. the reader can always select the objects, move them, explore, change, etc. PNGs should be avoided, unless you're explaining how to do Import :)

I also haven't really used the text tool, but I guess that will be easy enough to figure out!

Right now it's a bit painful because it doesn't wrap lines automatically (but this is in our plans). Use the page format and fonts of the existing tutorial.
