Group a shape with a text object
Hi there,
I'm new to Inkscape but I want to know if it's possible to group a shape with a text object like you can do in Adobe Illustrator?
In other words if you draw a square that you want to color programmatically, that square will need a text object grouped to it, e.g. 'My Square' and finally save it as SVG file. Can I do that with Inkscape and if yes how?

Stefan, I'm a user of both Illustrator and Inkscape, but I'm not sure what you are Trying to do. When you talk about coloring programatically, do you mean you need some external application to access the SVG file and modify a shape's color? If so, press CTRL+SHIFT+O, this will open the object attributes dialog. there you can change an object's name or label and thus be able to find it in the XML.
I'm not sure this is what you mean... I searched in the SVG section of Illusrator's help file and could not find the procedure you described. Anyway grouping in Inkscape is done by CTRL+G just like in illustrator.

Hi Michael,
The answer to your question do you mean you need some external application to access the SVG file and modify a shape's color is yes.
Here you can find what I try to do with Inkscape.

I've not used Illustrator yet, so I cannot tell if this is the correct way, but here you can find the steps for creating a svg file which can be manupilated by another application (PowerShell/PowerGadget).

What do you mean by "programmatically" ? Can't you just group the shape with the text using the current group features ?
