I'm trying to make inkscape a bit more tango-looking. So far I've only done the vertical toolbar:

You aren't the only one. This topic has been brought up several times already and resulted in the work allowing inkscape to be themed even if the default theme continues to be the same. Sooner or later though Inkscape will surely switch to a Tango theme (or adjust the current theme and get the Tango stamp of approval).
You may also note that the icons have been changed once already and so the last time a theme change was suggested it was far too close to the previous changes. With any visual change there is a disruption to the screnshots and documentation so it isn't something which can or should be done very often but it might be a good idea to plan for a theme chagne at significant milestone like 1.0 (or even 0.5 which I fully expect will be good enough to call 1.0 if the developers actually wanted to).
Technical drawing and graphic design is why harder than it looks, there are a lot of functional requirements which must be understood to be successful in any new theme.
I'm not so sure your almost pastel colour scheme is really in keeping with the Tango guidelines. Existing icons such as the Select Pointer has a white outline so that even in a black theme the icon will still make some sense but it is something you removed. You have not explained why you changed the circle colour from red to purple. The star and polygons are very indistinct and unclear in your theme and I do not see how fading the spirals from black to grey is an improvement.
So far I've only done the vertical toolbar:
I'm sure many users will appreciate having another theme for Inkscape so do keep at it, but if what you really want is make the default theme more like Tango you will need to rethink your design.
Good luck.
