To ensure that you have the latest stable release, you could always download the autopackage on the Inkscape website. I use it instead of the rpm for opensuse. Autopackages are supposed to be distro independent. I also use this on my ubuntu machines.

As a dialup user, each 13MB package I download (so far the tarball and the rpm) takes a few hours, plus then I need to try to get all the dependencies satisfied. Before I do that yet again, I'd like to find out if what I have is the latest stable version. Could someone with the latest stable version (not development, but issued as a distribution) please help->about and tell me the version and date?

The last autopackage I installed is dated Sept 5, 2007. Lots of improvements, more speed than in Feb.
