I want to display a book cover. It is currently in pdf form but I can save it in any of a number of other formats. When I saved it in svg (from Scribus) the file was huge and the image was distorted. so that is out. That leaves PDF or a variety of bitmap choices. I am thinking of png or tiff. I want fidelity and reasonable size in the final svg file.
Any recommendations?

What exactly do you want to do with the image? Exporting to png or tiff (or any other bitmap format) is usually not a good idea if you still want to manipulate it (and might be problematic in terms of file size). Have you tried Inkscape's PDF import?
