Feature question, only current layer visible
Howdy,
I would like Inkscape to show only contents of the active (selected?) layer, other layers would not be visible.
Is it currently (svn) possible to achieve this?
Thanks, Kent

I don't think so, one solution would be to hide all other layers but the active one. However as Inkscape is scriptable you could develop a quick script to automate it.

Someone just needs to implement Alt+click on a layer in Layer dialog to hide all other layers. That's how it's done in Photoshop so it will be a familiar shortcut for most users.

Perhaps we can do better if we steal from another genre. Audio applications often have a "solo" and "mute" button for tracks. I don't use the feature often so I'm not exactly sure how it works. But if I were to wager a guess the mute button works like our current hide buttons do, dissabling a single track/layer. And the solo button overrides this hide preference without disturbing it, causing only the solo track/layer to be seen/heard. Only a single solo can be checked at a time. This might allow greater flexibility. Just a thought.

+1, that's how I envisioned it, a "Layer visibility" setting which toggled between normal and current only.
Thanks, Kent

+1; this sounds like a good way to do it.
