That involved me in a complex series of steps involving multiple web sites. I am still not sure that my question was put in the proper queue.

btw I don't use Ubuntu but rather Slackware. My question is not OS specific but rather application specific, Jessyink on Inkscape. So I am still open to answers here.

I don't think there is a fixed limit. I've used at least 68 layers in talks.

I used up to 40 layers in talks, with pictures and multiple effects on almost al slides. When the pictures are not linked, applying effects cost much time. Also exporting to pdf takes a long time. I wrote some extensions to make this all faster. I hope that I can send them you tomorrow.
