Hi First, apologies for my poor posting etiquette in previous post. However I am still having trouble installing Inkscape to suse 9.1 Unable to install GTK+2 because it needs GTK+2 devel and I can't even find GTK+2 devel. Are there easier versions of sue or other distributions of linux to install inkscape on. Thanx again

You're willing to learn, which is the important thing :-)

The gtk2-devel packages should be on one of the install CDs. Otherwise, try rpmfind.net
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=gtk2-devel&system=sus...

I think the problems you're experiencing are due primarily to inexperience rather than a `bad' distribution.

Hello,
The packages are called "gtk2", etc. They should already be installed but the version might be too old. Try ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.suser-gbv contains gtk2-2.4.13 which should be recent enough but you might have to update lots of other packets as well (I think that SuSE 9.1 ships with 2.0.x of GTK).
Hope this helps,
