two new tips from the tipsandtricks tutorial
I added two new tips to the tutorial. Feel free to send me your favorite Inkscape tips for inclusion - preferably something non-obvious, useful, and not documented elsewhere.
Clipping or masking a bitmap
By default, an imported bitmap (e.g. a photo) is an <image> element which is not editable by a Node tool. To work around this, convert the image into a rectangle with pattern fill by Alt+I ("Tile"). Now this object can be converted to path, node-edited, intersected with other shapes etc. In Preferences (Misc tab), you can set the option of always importing bitmaps as tiles.
Open dialog as an object palette
If you have a number of small SVG files whose contents you often reuse in other documents, you can conveniently use the Open dialog as a palette. Add the directory with your SVG sources into the bookmarks list so you can open it quickly. Then browse that directory looking at the previews. Once you found the file you need, simply drag it to the canvas and it will be imported into your current document.

Do you have the interlocking-ring/object stuff we discussed a few months ago? I think I left it here:

Can't access that page...
As a friend pointed out, it's called yoyo for a reason :-( I think there may be issues accessing the server from outside .au, I'll ask tomorrow.
I can access it right now (2004-10-17T20:01:13+1000); I've attached the file also.

Hi Trent I am a member of the forum but have lost my id etc. In any case, just thought that I let you know that I've had problems accessing monash.edu in totally different contexts. I don't know whether they just plain shut down on weekends or different periods or not; but this is not new. Cheers, Muzz.

Sorry, are we talking about http://www.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?TricksAndTips
It doesn't appear to have your stuff (from the start of the thread). If we're talking about share/tutorials/tipsandtricks.svg from the CVS, I can append it and then mail you the diff.
I can't even look at it before 2004-11-05, since I have 3 exams before then.

Yes, I meant adding it to the .svg. The wiki page is just a scratchpad for quick notes. By the way if there are notes on that page which are good (please test them) and not in the .svg yet, you could add them too. Thanks!

Nope. Gives a 'Cannot connect to remote server.'.
