Hi there,
somehow my splash screen is gone (Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819), can't remember if I disabled it :-) And what's worse: can't find how to renable...
Could someone help me?
TIA!

Hi Lars, Sorry to disappoint you but... as long as I've been with the project (>0.45), I don't remember we ever had a splash screen! :)
Ciao, Johan

Ok, looks like an explanation. Thx! :-)

If you click on help>about inkscape you get a splash screen.

Yeah, thank you that wasn't what I was looking for.
Would like some kind of info of "Inkscape is starting". I often happen to click the start button twice because I'm not sure if I clicked correct.

Instead, I think we should work on getting Inkscape to start fast again! :)

This has been the projects general goal (basically, splash screens mean you did it wrong is the attitude). Jon's icon caching and Krzysztof's cairo work both helped this immensely, but we still have a ways to go.
In my latest go at trying to figure out what's taking the most time a significant chunk of it related to fontconfig calls. Perhaps loading the UI prior to us doing our fontconfig stuff could yield results that would be noticeable. I have a callgrind (valgrind) output if you're interested in checking it out... it appears that WinCacheGrind would be the win32 utility to check it out.
Cheers, Josh
