I was looking at the Roadmap, sepecifically Milestone 11/Inkscape.45 and it listed PDF export as an option, but I have already been able to export directly to PDF from the Inkscape export dialog from at least .43 onwards.
Does this mean that it will have a PDF export that will be handled by Inkscape itself rather than by Ghostscript or there will be more features or what?

It's not uncommon for the Inkscape team to get stuff done ahead of schedule. Not a bad thing!

In fact, PDF export is one of our Summer of Code projects, so yes we do expect to see PDF export functionality improved/expanded by the 0.45 release.
Are there particular issues you've run into with PDF export in 0.44pre2?

The only thing I remember is that it didn't support was transparency (in .43). I actually am very happy with the vector PDF export (although it is only there sometimes on the Mac version on my system). I don't really care what library they use - I am not using any advanced features of PDF. I will try PDF export with .44pre2 as soon as I get a chance and test the transparency.
I just wondered if there were more features coming as I do realize that the milestones are not exactly tied to that particular release especially since most of the development is volunteer. It just says next to the feature .44 or .43 or whatever version number it was implemented in and since it didn't have a version number next to it and I have used the feature I wondered what they meant by that.
There are already many feature in Inkscape that I don't understand - like the filters, so I just was curious if there were more PDF features planned.
Thanks for the info and I will try to make use of the new features when they are implemented.
