hi. I'm writing an article about Inkscape for a Linux magazine in Romania, and I wanted to ask if I may put images from the website in the article showing off features. I would rather use those rather than screenshtos made by myself as they look better for the ammount of time I have. Also if there are inkscape artists here who would allow me to put artwork they made I would be highly interested. For artwork I would have text under the images in the form of "artwork_name - artist's name". Thank you... and big thanks to the creators... I didn't find how I could reach you directly: thank you for this great product!
PS: I was just showing it off to my coleagues excited about the great "about"s you have/had, real artwork/desing... and about opening tutorials inside an inkscape document... has a great inpact and also great functionality (you can try it as you do it).
PS2: If you think I might not showcase enough a particular great feature the program says please feel free to underline it to me so I don't forget it. Thank you!

There are many images at http://www.openclipart.org that can be freely used, but you need to find out which ones were created with inkscape. If you are lazy to inspect, here come my GPLed images created with inkscape: http://www.inf.sgsp.edu.pl/pub/MALUNKI/STRAZ/

I wish there were more high quality images like these in OpenClipart.org!

quite cool. Would you allow me to use any of the images there? (maybe the first one)

The authors of a large part of the images from the screenshots page (http://inkscape.org/screenshots/) expressed their approval to release the images as Public Domain, so you can use them freely. I planned to contact the remaining few authors to get explicit permission, but failed to do this so far. Also there is a newly created 'showcase' section for displaying images of the artwork created with Inkscape, but so far it is mostly empty (http://inkscape.org/showcase/).
PS: I was just showing it off to my coleagues excited about the great "about"s you have/had, real artwork/desing... and about opening tutorials inside an inkscape document... has a great inpact and also great functionality (you can try it as you do it).
Have a look at all the images in the contest for the latest contest, many are awesome (but not necessarily free to use, you have to ask the authors): http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/journal/5828886/

Feel free to use *any* of my images, eventually ask for better resolution or sources (but I have mostly clipart-like images, not full scenes). And do not forget to tell us when the article will be published, I will buy that number of the magazine :D

Right, I live in Romania. As I said, I have mostly clipart images not full scenes (and all clipart is published at http://openclipart.org), but some intersting resources may be: - http://www.nicubunu.ro/cards/ - http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/galleries/marketing/web_buttons/ - http://ooo.nicubunu.ro/splash_gallery/?gallery=ooo - http://nicubunu.blogspot.com/2005/05/one-potato-two-potatos.html - http://www.deviantart.com/view/14796067/
feel free to use any of my images from http://simarilius.deviantart.com/gallery/
Cheers

please forgive me for insisting, but after the discussion I am still unclear: may I put into the article the images at http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/index.php or not? Also is there another place besides the contest for the about screen where I can find more Inkscape artworks? (right now I understand I can use the images given by Karol Kreński and the one on the showcase... thank you. I would really like ot have more finished works if possible/there are such to show off the power of Inkscape).

Please list the images you wish to use. Then the author's can speak up and give permission.

well, in short just about any of the images from the http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/ page would be of itnerest to me to use it and mention in a text box under it Inkscape features. To be more explicit I would like to use

I'll probably only have space for like 6-8 images... but I'm mentioning more in the hope I'll find those. thanks

Aboout all images are by Bulia or Aaron, and both on them gave permission to use, only two special cases:
http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/gallery/inkscape-0.41-CVS-linux-davinci....
here the author does not made clear the terms of use, but he made the source available in his own site: http://erture.webpark.pl/vinci.html
http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/gallery/inkscape-0.40-CVS-andy_fitzsimon...
this one contain mostly images submited as Public Domain at openclipart.org

Roughly the authors of 90% of the images already gave explicit permission (Aaron Spike, Bulia Byak, Vellum) (usually the images where a name isn't mentioned are made by Bulia). I really should send a message to the remaining ones (Andy Fitzsimon, David Berg, jimmac and rejon) one of these days and ask for explicit permission.

You can use any of my art at http://scislac.deviantart.com/gallery/ all of my newer work is done in Inkscape, and I always note in the description if Inkscape was the tool. (which any vector work of mine done in the past year is done in Inkscape)
