The problem is present in 0.44.1 too. Actually, it is the font libraries that Inkscape uses (Pango, right?) that are responsible for this, and it's up to their devs to resolve the issue, I'm afraid.

I've dabbled a bit with replacing Pango versions or clearing font caches, but to no effect. The weird thing is that the missing fonts seem to be random AFAICS, for example, if I install your Zapf font in attach it shows up perfectly in Inkscape.

I use the font think to manage my fonts. I installed some new fonts and unistalled others. They are usable or not on all software and not into Inkscape.
