What is the simplest set of operations which can allow me to recolor the squares (combining paths, breaking them apart, turning into bitmap, back again, filling derived paths etc.)

Here's my starter for 10 (well, 11, plus a repetition, so 15 really)

1. Ungroup 2. Select the coloured squares and remove the stroke 3. Select everything, then un-select the three coloured squares 4. Stroke to Path 5. Union, so all black lines are a single object 6. Select black lines 7. Duplicate three times, so there are four sets of black lines 8. Select yellow square, then select black lines (one set of) 9. Difference, which cuts the yellow square into nine, and destroys one set of black lines 10. Repeat 7. and 8. for the other colours 11. Break apart the coloured squares, so their colours can be set individually.

Can anyone streamline this process?
