Hi! I have just read the news about the results of the latest Google Summer of Code, in terms of the news features that will be integrated into Inkscape, and I would like to know if there is any idea about when will a new version be available to use?
I have checked out the latest development snapshots, but turns out that Mac PPC version is not quite up to date. There are only recent builds for Intel... :(
I am very excited about this news... What about you?

I can attest that the instructions on how to build on mac, using Macports, work well. It's not that hard to get your own build going.
And if you add a local prefix, (I used ~/opt/local for mine) you can have a personal build and the full one both installed.

Right. But as far as I know, there is no development version for Inkscape in MacPorts... Am I wrong?

There could be an inkscape-devel port, like there was a gimp-devel one. I have thought about it many times but the long reaction time of the MacPorts team to the few tickets I posted about upgrading other ports discouraged me to post a whole new Portfile. You could probably create a local MacPorts repository with the Portfile for Inkscape- devel but this may be overkill. As Jon pointed, simple compiling Inkscape SVN following the instructions on the wiki and using the prefix /opt/local gives you Inkscape devel in MacPorts (well, not integrated with the port command but in the same PATH). And if compiling inkscape SVN with MacPorts would just be a matter of typing: port install inkscape-devel doing it manually requires: svn co https://inkscape.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/inkscape/ inkscape/trunk inkscape cd inkscape/packaging/macosx ./osx-build-.sh all the first time, and only the last line for subsequent updates, so it's not much more difficult.
In addition, if you produce regular PPC builds from SVN, we can upload them to modevia for everyone to enjoy. This would be a great service to Inkscape's community.
