How to create a circular pattern

I feel completely stupid. Maybe I'm just not seeing that "Get your free circular pattern here" button in Inkscape. What I need is a circular arrangement of clones of an object where I can select an object, set a center point, an increment angle and number of clones and just get some clones along a circle or arc.
There's this ultracomplex thingy for "tiling" things but I don't think it does what I need.
Thanks, --D.

I thought about something along those lines, but before I got there I thought that there had to be a more sensible solution. Apparently there isn't. Strange.
Thanks, --D.

well, actually i use lines instead of rectangles. maybe i should have told you that. but i got the general idea from tavmjong. you can duplicate and manually rotate around too, avoiding the tile clones dialog. my method makes perfect sense to me. i get what i want in the end.

In SVN, you don't need to group the tile with an empty rect. Just drag the rotation center of the tile to where you want it to be and clone tiler will rotate it around that point.

No it won't. Or at least v0.44 won't. --D.

"in SVN" means in the development version, meaning >0.45. If you don't want to use a development version then you'll have to wait for 0.46 to be out.
