Rotate Viewport/Canvas
I've not long owned a graphics tablet and last night I had a lot fun inking some pencils with the calligraphy tool. But one of the issues I have with tablets is that you can't rotate them to draw lines on those funny angles - well, you can but it makes drawing more difficult.
I've never seen any application do this, but it would be really neat if you could rotate the viewport/canvas just like you rotate a piece of paper. It is, of course, only going to be useful for tablet users. And I could rotate all of a drawing, and then rotate it backagain, but that would be tedious.
If you're using Linux, you may be able to use xrandr to rotate the entire display. Doing it via Xorg is going to be more robust than doing it in the application, and of course it means you get it for all applications not just inkscape.

Nah, I'm using Windows, but I never considered that method as an option so I'll try finding a windows equivalent. Thanks.

I just read the man for xrandr and it sound like it can only rotate in 90 degree increments - ideally it would be nice to rotate an arbrary amount. Which I doubt could be done at a desktop level.
Maybe it will be possible with Vista at an application level.

Someone proposed this on the devel list as an enhancement already and I think he/she is working on it currently, maybe even through a summer of code project (the idea came at about the same time, I just don't know if it was really SOC related or not). You could search the devel list for the rotate canvas keywords and it should show you the thread.

Painter does that and from my brief use of it I can say it is a great help. It's not tedious if there's a reset to zero feature.
