I found this tutorial for photoshop. Is there any way I could do this in inkscape ? http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Fold-a-Book-into-a-Word-The-original-...
I have a new laptop and am limited in space. If I install inkscape, how much space with it us from my hard drive ? if not I can always go back to my desktop. cheers,Joanne
Hi Joanne,
as this is related to raster images manipulation (manual pixel counting...), it's better to use this tutorial for automatization: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-folded-book-art-easier-using-you...
Probably, it would be possible to do this in Inkscape by first vectorizing the picture, then cutting it into slices, then breaking it apart, then measuring the path lengths
but you wouldn't get a nice folding pattern easily.
So I suggest you make the picture in Inkscape, and feed it into the program in that other instructable.
The space limitation could be a problem, though: For the Windows/OSX + Virtualbox version, you'd need at least 10 Gb, the WAMP version for Windows will be smaller, I think. On Linux, you'd probably only need less than 1GB for all the additional software.
I don't know how big an Inkscape install is on Win, but I'd guess it's smaller than 500Mb, and on Linux, it is maybe roughly 100Mb.
Regards, Maren
