Re: Issues with cutting paths
Hi Maren & David,
First, this is almost consistent on my system. The variation is that the erase line disappears (as you would expect) but does nothing with the underlying object. In no case have I seen it working on my system.
I have removed the preferences file, so I’m working with the defaults set on installation.
There are two issues here for me. First the Cut tool does not cut paths. I was trying the erase tool as a work-around. Second, the, is the non-functional erase tool.
I am unwilling to restore Mojave, but if I did, I’d go back to Illustrator because I know how to use it. I like Inkscape, but to be a replacement for me, I need the cut tool.
Do I need to make this into a formal bug report?
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
I've seen this happen a lot of times in my own Inkscape, and many people have complained about it.
In my Inkscape 1.0.x, I cannot reproduce the issue currently with your file, though.
There is a similar bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1425794 that assumes it could be related to the viewbox and any transforms.
I was not able to find another open bug report, especially none on GitLab.
There is one closed report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1539778) on launchpad that might be what you are seeing - but it's supposed to be fixed in your Inkscape version (1.0beta2 (2b71d25, 2019-12-03)).
As it works for me, but does not work for you, maybe a difference in our preferences files could play a role, too.
Does it always *not* work for you, or are there cases when it does work?

Hi Dave,
I've had several issues with the version of Inkscape you are using that prevented me from completing drawings. Until the issues are resolved, I have been using the 0.92.4 version on Mac OS Mojave. You will have to build & install the 0.92.4 version using MacPorts. Info on how to do that is here;
https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-0.92.4/mac-os-x/macports/dl/
It was fairly easy to do. I've had no issues with this build on Mojave. I am not using paths in my current drawings so I don't know if it will have the issues you are seeing in the beta builds.

Hi Dave,
yes, if you've tested it with the latest 1.0.x dmg file and it also doesn't work there, it's time to report.
You can find the latest 1.0.x dmg at https://alpha.inkscape.org/prereleases/Inkscape-1.0-latest.dmg
If the problem persists, please report it at https://inkscape.org/report.
Kind Regards Maren
