starting Inkscape 1.0.0 (4035a4f) on Mac Mojave

A couple of weeks ago, Inkscape 1.0.0 was running happily on my Mojave machine. Today, it won’t start. Instead, MacOS gives this error message:
The last time you opened Inkscape, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?
There are two option buttons: Don’t Reopen, and Reopen.
Both have the same effect: Inkscape vanishes.
I have tried: - trashing pref files - trashing app support files - trashing Inkscape.app and re-installing from a fresh download
Context: Inkscape 1.0.0 (4035a4f) MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 RAM: 24 GB Processor: 3.2 GHz core i5
Where should I be looking next to fix this?
