Just a little question:
Would it be possible to set the Reply-To field to "inkscape-user@lists.sourceforge.net" instead of to the person that wrote to the list?
Just go to here: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/admin/inkscape-user and put in the admin password. Then under "Where are replies to list messages directed?" you can set it to "This list." It does however say that "Poster is _strongly_ recommended for most lists," could anyone explain that to me? It talks about reply to munging... I guess that could be an issue?
What does everyone think about this? Should it be changed? I just think it's annoying to have to change it every time!

Yes it is possible; current behavior is the default.

If we get 3 'ayes' I'll switch it over that way for a week, and then y'all can decide which way you'd prefer it permanently.

BIG 'aye' from me, I agree with Daniel!! :-)

It's been a bit over a week since we switched over. Hopefully folks have had enough time to form an opinion on it, or voice their position.
So to get a concensus on this, if you have an opinion, please email me privately with your vote by March 3rd, whether to have:
a) Reply-Goes-To-List b) Reply-Goes-To-Poster (i.e., use Reply-All to reply to list)
If the voting is clearly one way or the other, we'll do that. If it's mixed 50/50 then we should probably discuss it a bit more.
Note that this decision will *only* affect the inkscape-user list.

Is it too late to vote nay?
I'm not in favor of making it extremely difficult to reply to ML messages privately.

We'll be voting on the 26th, after folks have had a chance to try it for a week.

I vote Nay as well, exteremly strongly.
this causes data loss, particularly annoying if I were to explicitly set the Reply-To: to be something like both the list and me in case I want an immediate reply and I'm on the list digest.
Also if someone accidently sends an email it is better that accidentally spam one person not the whole huge group of people on the list.
mail clients like mutt and others support Reply to list Reply All is also works well enough in just about every mail program there is.
I'll try and do a search and get back to you with a more thorough explanation of why setting the reply-to is bad.
If you wanted to give in to user demand for this on the user list I wouldn't be happy but I wouldn't be surprised but I would be particularly dissappointed if you went with it on the developer list.
Sincerely
Alan Horkan.
Well, I'm not a develper but I am a user and it's inconvenient to have to copy and paste into a New mail dialog with the proper needed address in the To: line.
If you change it back I guess that's the way it is but as Inkscape grows and if this is the only way to work with folks "in the know" then users will not appreciate the inconvenience of having extra steps to take in order to reply to each post that have interest in knowing more about.
You might in the future want to set up a Developers and a Users mail list and in the Users mail list supply the direct address instead of having the reply to sending it to the last person that sent the responce to the mail list. Not everyone likes to have their mailboxes full of people that they don't know. I use MailWasher on WinXP Pro and if I don't know them then they get added to the "blacklist" which bounces the mail back to the sender!!
Just my 2¢
Richard ;-)~

Which email client are you using? In the absence of a Reply-to header, the "reply" (versus "reply to all") function should let you automatically compose a new email with the original email's author as the recipient.

If you use evolution you get a reply to list option when you right click a message. Any other e-mail clients have this option?

Well, I think many of the Inkscape users think that everyone is a Linux user. I use Windows XP Pro. I run Mandrake very rarely, maybe when version 10 hits I'll use a bit more.
So there you have it. If there is a larger Linux user base using the Inkscape mail group then do what you need to do and I will just work around it in regards to this issue. No big deal when you really get down to it!!
Many thanks
Richard ;-)~
