Nicu's fantastic SVG clipart resource includes a Rubik-style cube.

I have a puzzle. What is the simplest set of operations which can allow me to recolor the squares (combining paths, breaking them apart, turning into bitmap, back again, filling derived paths etc.) I guess I need to decompose all the overlapping shapes into line segments, build them into shapes then somehow fill them.
So I have an unusual puzzle - how to mess up a perfectly solved Rubik's cube. Surely it can't be that hard. People on this user list are BOUND to know how to do it, and I'm stuck.

Why not just lay new coloured and skewed squares over the original(s)?
