Hello,
"Simplify path" has the disadvamtage that it cuts so many nodes away that the new path looks different.
Is it possible to get a second version of that command which tries to remove as many nodes as possible without changing the shape? Maybe using the new node-delete which also tries to preserve the node shape.
Regards,

It all depends on the simplification threshold. Go to options/misc and lower the threshold if the default is too strong for you.

Hi! If I may have a suggestion about the node simplification function of Inkscape: The idea is to enhance this function in such a way that Inkscape will simplify only a group of selected nodes. This way, the designer will have control over what part of the path (what group of nodes, literaly what part of the vector object) is affected by this function. In case that there is no selection, the behaviour of the funtion will be the same as now (all nodes are affected).
Such functionality is already realised in Corel Draw, and is very helpful. (see attached screenshot "corel_node_optimization.png" with examples and comments about this function in Corel Draw)
Also, another enhancement could be a smooth "on the fly" control over the simplification strengh/threshold (0-100%). This is also realised in Corel Draw (see attached screenshot "corel_node_optimizationtool.png")
I hope that I've been clear enough, if not please tell me, I'll try to explain it with more details. If you find this suggestion interesting, I will open a RFE at sourceforge.
Thanks!
Molumen

Yes, this is in our RFE tracker for ages.

From release notes for 0.38:
Accelerated Simplify: similar to scrolling, a single Simplify (Ctrl+L) does a slight simplification, but invoking it several times in quick succession makes it act more and more aggressively on the selected objects. It is thus easy to apply the exact amount of simplification you need for each case.
Perhaps not the best or most obvious feature, but it's there and it works.

Hello,
Thanks Bulia for the reply.
Yes, this is in our RFE tracker for ages.
Before posting this suggestion I made a quick search through RFEs but didn't find a similar one... Can you please send me its #, so I can have a look at it and maybe add there the screenshots of corel I made?

Well yes, that sound quite reasonable, but the difference between Corel and Inkscape is then in the smoothness of this operation: in Corel it is only one single operation where I control its strength, and in Inkscape it is a serie of the same operation with the same strength. Maybe in the future (past 1.0 release?) this function can be updated in Inkscape to match the same smoothness as in Corel? Future will tell. :)
Thanks!
