Hi to all,

I have removed the CC to the Sodipodi list, I am not subscribed to that list.
Some people dont like when you crosspost to more than one list at a time.
Simply put if you shout a question out in crowded room you wont be able to hear the answers and lots of people will probably give you the same answer. I'll do me best to give a good answer but it would be a waste if I was just repeating something that had already been said on the Sodipodi list.
It is better for you and us to ask one group at a time. If you dont get the answer you are looking for you can try asking the same question again or perhaps try asking a better question from what you have learned from your answers rather than having two groups repeat the same questions and answers.
Now that I have finished making my little point about etiquette I'm sorry to say that unfortunately Inkscape does not yet have support for Vector Graphics in file formats other than SVG.
There are workarounds. OpenOffice.org Draw has SVG Export and support for quite a few vector graphics file formats.
Dia can import a few other vector file other file formats and can also export SVG but the results will not be brilliant. http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/
It would have helped if you had let us know if you had a specific Vector Graphics file format in mind such as (Enhanced) Windows MetaFiles (.wmf and .emf) or pehaps something more technical such as DXF which is the Document exchange format used by CAD programs or maybe even you are interested in the Macromedia Flash file formats (.fla and .swf).
There are libraries (like libwmf for WMF) available and if you could find (or sponsor) a developer interested in adding the functionality to Inkscape it would be worth considering.
Hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions and I'll try my best to answer them.
Sincerely
