Hello,
I am getting an error dialog on my openSUSE 10.2 desktop when trying to use the perspective effect in Inkscape v0.45. (kde)

Can anyone explain why this happens? Perhaps it's user error.
Thank-you,
heathenx

As far as I know, this is a known error. You should find the python module called "numpy" and install it into the python that came with inkscape. I have done neither, so I can't give specifics.

Ahh. Well, I didn't get your message in time so I downloaded the numPY (numeric python) tarball and compiled it from source. It compiled without any errors. I got the original error to go away but now I get a new error. Too difficult to explain so I made a quick screen cast of the error.
This error doesn't exist in the Windows version because the perspective effect is not available.

Ok. i think I understand what's going on now. Looks like the "perspective" effect might not be fully baked yet. I was getting a little confused between versions of Inkscape on my different OS's. On my opensuse 10.2 box and my ubuntu 6.10 laptop and desktop, I see the perspective effect, I think, because I used the .package file from sourceforge to install Inkscape. But on my opensuse 10.1 box I used smart package manager to install Inkscape 0.45-1 from guru's repo. Apparently that version wasn't compiled with the perspective effect. Also, on my Winxp box I do not see the perspective effect either.
This process has taught me something. I'll get more features if I install the official Inkscape from the Inkscape web site (instead of grabbing from a repo with apt or smart) but those extra features may or may not work especially if they're experimental.
I know...I'm slow sometimes...but right now I feel like friggin' Poirot.
