Hi All, I seem to be having great difficulties printing anything from inkscape onto my printer (Epson Stylus Photo 870). If I attempt to print anything, it comes out as a large grey square, with the vaguest hint of the darkest parts of the image elongated down the right-hand side. I've tried using print direct, print image as bitmap and piping through lp, and kprinter, to no avail. I can print out to a laser printer at work, but that's a raw PS one. Any suggestions on what to check, how to narrow down the culprit, or how to clarify what's wrong most welcome.
I've tried to compile inkscape with --gnome-print, but that completely failed (I've raised a bug on this).
Apart from that, I'm really impressed with Inkscape - a big thankyou to all who've helped with it.
Cheers, Crispin
Dunno if my problem is related, but I find that inkscape 0.39 rasterizes the image at around 100 dpi while my printer is capable of at least 300 dpi.
Any ideas for further diagnosis?

Did you try the resolution setting in the print dialog? It is set to 72 dpi by default.

I'll start with a couple of stupid questions:
* Can you print from other applications?
* If so, which ones?
* What printing interface are you using (e.g. CUPS, lprng)?
* Can you export to PS / PNG, then import and print from the GIMP[0]?

[0] I think the GIMP has extra magic on top of CUPS somehow.

These test are run with Inkscape 0.39.
- Can you print from other applications?
Yes.

OpenOffice, Acroread, etc

CUPS 1.1.20

PS export (via print to file) looks fine on the screen (ggv + 400% zoom), but it look like crap (72dpi max) when printed.
Importing the same PS into GIMP looks OK on the screen. Printing doesn't work at the moment, but that's certainly a GIMP problem.
Inkscape export to PNG also looks responable in GIMP.
Any clue what could be the problem?
