Lots of bits of text with boxes around them? Here's an extension to automatically resize all the boxes to fit all the texts with specified padding, all at once. You just draw the boxes approximately in the right place and the extension tidies everything up.

Perhaps something like this could be bundled with Inkscape?
Cheers -Terry
Out of curiosity, do you have an example image of an application of this script?

Arg, I should have known it would have been on the github page. Apologies for not reading before emailing!

Hi, This is really really useful, thanks Chris! I wonder if in the future you are planning to put more measures, like, this is useful to me while i'm working on printed media mainly. Obviously i can do the math! And the other thing around if it is actually possibly to do this effect the other way around, just resizing the text frame to a desired box size. Anyway, this is awesome.
Thanks!

Terry, actually :-)

You mean like "2 in", "1.2 cm", "4 pt" etc. What the docs. don't point out is that the inputs are free text that's passed through 'eval', so you can enter things list "2.4 * 72" (assuming there are 72 px in an inch?). I guess resizing the text to fit the boxes would make sense, although I'm not sure if the text elements have the same x,y,width, height attributes - might work for text boxes and not unflowed text.
I'll try and find time to look at these things, although anyone else is welcome to enhance it as well, I just did it in a hurry because I needed the functionality at the time.
