About Installer on Windows

Hi all,
I just downloaded the latest packages for GIMP on Windows. GIMP and GTK have two separate installers and GTK installs itself in the Common Files directory. Now: I was wondering if it would be possible for Inkscape to use that GTK installation. I'm not a friend of duplicate files even if they're small.
Regards, Elfi

In this case the duplicate files are not small. But I do not believe the size is outrageous for a modern application such as inkscape. A single installation package looks much much simpler to a new user. We value this simplicity. And the most important reason is that we often times require the latest versions of GTK because of important bugfixes. If saving space is important to you, try deleting Inkscape's copy of GTK. It should fallback on adn use your platform's GTK.
This issue has been brought up many times before. As of yet, no one has been willing to step forward and coordinate the collaboration with other GTK using projects on win32. Another solution might simply be for someone to begin providing a NO-GTK package of Inkscape. Packaging tasks like these are quite simple and form an excellent oportunity for users to get involved in the community and build their own knowledge.
Because we are short on volunteers we've chosen to concentrate on what we think is the most trouble free solution.

Well. ok then. Please forget that I asked. Since I've used apt on Linux I wish there was something like it on Windows (but this topic doesn't belong here).
BTW, I just love Inkscape.

It is good to periodically revist topics such as this one. But at the moment the reasons for the current state of things are still valid. It is very likely something could change in the future, especially if someone happens upon this thread and decides it needs to change. So, thanks for asking.
BTW, I just love Inkscape.
Always glad to hear that.

Actually - as far as I know - development versions of Gimp come already bundled with all the GTK files in them, so in the future (gimp 2.4 and onward) I expect it's going to be Gimp that will follow Inkscape in not relying on an external GTK installation. And for a good reason (Which Aaron explained).
