Of Tutorials and Manners
I need some input on the open source community on this one.
I ran across a simple but neat tutorial on gimptalk.com on how to do woven tribal artwork with GIMP. I've since adjusted the method for inkscape and put a short 5 step tutorial together on how to do the appropriate path manipulations. I would like to post this somewhere. I have tried to contact the original author "Clay Ogre" but have not received a reply. Would I be stepping on anyone's toes if I posted this? If not where could I post it? If so, I'll just keep it as a reference for myself.

I'd say post it with a credit and url pointing to the original, you can't really do more. Where to post it's another thing - you could use the Inkscape SourceForge patches tracker if I think.

It's probably okay, if you haven't directly lifted text or images from the original. Give credit to the original author, and let him know you've posted it, and I bet you'll be fine.

Thanks. Will do.

Yeah, you should be fine unless you're using the original art work.
Hey Guys,
I really like the forum and I've gotten a lot of good knowledge from it. But is there a place where individuals can just post random tutorials, tips, and tricks?
I see a lot of help files within inkscape itself. These have been very helpful. But, something dynamic and web based would really be great. I'm would think somebody on this list would have a site like this going. I guess I'm think of something along the lines of gimptalk.com. Then again, that could be a full time job by itself.

The description seems to be fairly close to a wiki.
We have one at http://wiki.inkscape.org/
Hey Folks,
Anybody knows what has happened to openclipart.org? It seems to be offline for quite some time now? What has happened?

openclipart is provided via freedesktop.org, which has been having various problems for the last month or so. You may want to ask about it on #freedesktop at irc.freenode.net.

Not (yet) the most obvious place for people to go looking, but I know that LinuxGazette.net would welcome well-written information about any Open Source software...it's got a wide international readership, and it would be a great way to spread awareness of Inkscape just a little further outside the graphics-focused communities.
Well,
My first tutorial is up on pixel2life.com. I should have spent some more time cleaning up the avatar though. It looks okay in gimp but looks like crap on the pixel2life site. Also, I had some trouble getting the page to export to a png correctly. The line on the red shape in the upper right hand corner isn't rendered/exported to the png. Is this something I'm doing, or a bug in inkscape?
I put the actual content out on deviant art, ironranger.deviantart.com.

try pixel2life.com. they could use some inkscape tutorials. i posted one back in Feb. but opt now for screencasting on youtube.
like everyone else says, just give credit from the tutorial where the original came from.

I am ClayOgre....go right ahead. Gimptalk also has a subforum for Inkscape, you might also want to post your tutorial there. PM me at Gimptalk and I will post on your tutorial thread letting people know that it is okay for you to post the adaptation of my tutorial.
