Hi all
Bear with me if these are dopey questions:
Objects appear to have a default opacity (0.75 from the XML editor?) but the item properties dialog box says opacity = 1. So:
What is the default opacity and how does one adjust the default?
Why do objects that I edit in the XML editor to opacity = 1 still appear on screen as having an opacity?
Regards from a puzzled Adam

It can be a little confusing, but that is the fill-opacity, which I believe is separate from the stroke-opacity and object-opacity(which is what you are seeing in the item properties). You should be able to adjust it by going to the Fill part of the Fill & Stroke Dialog and changing the Alpha value. I think you can adjust the default in your preferences.xml file, but you may want to get advice from someone who knows more about it than I do before messing with that.
Hope that helps, Michael Wheeler http://www.planet-zero.net
Thank you Bulia and Michael - I am much clearer now on applying opacity and, thanks to you, explored the "apply to" drop down list at the foot of the Fill and Stroke dialog box/palette, learning yet more possibilities and opportunities.
Thanks and regards
