Hello all,
before a couple of days I needed to upgrade from osx 10.6 to 10.8. Today I realized Inkscape doesn't open any more. On the download page is only a snow leo version available. So does that mean you are not supporting osx any more? This would be a horrible loss for me. Maybe there are other options to get inkscape running on my mac again. If so, I would be very glad about any tipps how to do it.
Thanks Christian

I'm running OS X 10.8.3 (which came preinstalled with this computer) and Inkscape works for me (both the X11 version and the native version that was posted some time ago on this list).
Which version of XQuartz are you running? 2.7.4 works for me.

How can I find out? I installed it with simply downloading the .dmg file from inkscape.org Because you mentioned it works, I have re-downloaded but it keeps crashing.

Do you even have XQuartz installed? I believe older OS X versions came with X11 preinstalled, but 10.8 doesn't anymore. Is there anything like "X11" or "XQuartz" in your Applications folder? If yes, open that and you will see the version number in X11 -> About X11. If no, get it from https://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
I also had trouble installing it -- but in the end, after re-installing XQuartz, i managed to get it working.
You could also try installing it using Homebrew, but succes is not gueranteed. But: you might be lucky.

I think for Inkscape, it's better to use the DMG than homebrew :)
Is there any mention of an OSX port in development? I seem to recall there was one in the works, but I'm unsure if that's fallen by the wayside or not...?

An unofficial native version was posted some time ago on this list. That works fine for me, it still has some bugs such as bad keyboard shortcuts, non-working floating toolbars, and once it refused to import an svg with polyline elements which worked fine in the X11 version - so it's advisable to still keep the X11 version around, but in general, it seems to work.

Please read http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Inkscape_fails_to_launch_on_OS_X_10.8_Mountain_Lion
On Mountain Lion, you first need to install XQuartz (Please do not forget to logout and back in (or reboot) as described in the FAQ to properly finish the installation of XQuartz).
Thank you all for you help.
I had to install XQuartz (I have not seen the FAQ entry). After next Inkscape start a window appeared asking me where my X11 is located. I have chosen XQuartz in Utility Programs. First time it wouldn't open, but at the second try and after an extended startup time of around 1 minute Inkscape appeared. While was somehow different for me to get it running, it worked out well.
Cheers Christian
