Hi!
I know it is a bit offtopic, but maybe somebody can help me out there.
I want to print an inkscape tutorial (hence the inkscape mailing list;), but none of the programs is capable to do it. Here is the original image: http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs13/f/2007/113/7/3/a_Quick_Guide_to_Inkscape_by_m...
I tried firefox, but prints only the first page, so the image is cutted at the top.
And after that: gimp (with gimp-print plugin), gthumb, inkscape, evince.
None of them was I successful.
Any ideas?

Yes, what a great guide microUgly put together. Personally, I wouldn't try printing it. I would just keep the image on my pc and reference it.

-GENERAL DISCUSSION- I am sorry, I don't havea real answer, but together with the other discussion going on at the same time, I`d say that this question is not so off-topic. In general "we" (the human race, I mean, especially those NOT using Corel) is in dire need of a tool that that would allow for "tiled" printing of documents bigger then A4, which is typically what you want to do here... In Inkscape it could involve some smart cropping and/or slicing and/or printing.
-SUGGESTION 1 : CREATE SLICES- Which makes me think of a crude sollution to your problem: create in an extra layer (on top of the rest) a series of tiled, transparant rectangles (if you're smart, using "tiled clones"). Select a rectangle, choose export -> selection. Repeat this for each tile, hence creating a series of tiles that can be printed individually.
-SUGGESTION 2 : MAKE A POSTER IN pICASA - Another option, -again-, you could try is: importing the file in Picassa. Then choose to make a poster out of it, magnification MUCH. Now, trow away all the empty tiles/pcitures and print out the remaining.
By the way, people, excuses for my childish previous post.

That's great! That would indeed solve the problem...

I want to print an inkscape tutorial (hence the inkscape mailing list;), but none of the programs is capable to do it.
If you use KDE or can install it, then there is a section in the print dialogue to let you print "posters" -- I reckon you could do it from there.

heh heh.
I'm glad you like my guide. I suspected some might like to print it which is why you can find a link in the description of the deviantart page to the HTML version :) - http://www.microugly.com/inkscape-quickguide/

Yes, I know that there is a html version, but firefox (at least under linux) can print but the page is bigger horizontaly as A4, and firefox print only the left part of each page.:-\
(so there is a 2-2.5 cm width column, which is not printed). So firefox (2.0.0.4) is not a big help at printing...
But the guide is perfect. So thank you, I really like it, especially the two graphics on it;)
Khiraly
My bad. I'll define a proper print style sheet and test that it works properly. I'll let you know when it's done.

It should print much more nicely now.

Its much better now, a small issue: the graphics are cutted (crop) at the end of pages. Is it possible to disable it in CSS? Maybe its time to google (for me;)
Here is a screenshot of the problem: http://i18.tinypic.com/68j2hoj.png
There are page breaks css properties, but maybe it should be something more intelligent.
But thank you for your effort!
Khiraly
There are page breaks css properties, but maybe it should be something more intelligent.
I have played with page-breaks-inside:avoid and other properties, but it seems there are absolutely no effect to the page breaks. (ie: the generated print preview is always the same).
Is there a tool for testing the page breaks? (at the specification[1], there are some computation methods, but I cant check if Im correct)
Its a shame, that the page breaks also cut the images too. I think printing with firefox is a deadend.
