My swatches aren't colored. http://www.ekips.org/comp/inkscape/inx/inkscape_swatches.png I'm wondering what I can do about that.

Which OS? Which theme?

Debian Sid. Custom Gnome Theme. Now that I switched to one of the standard themes it works fine.
What does a theme need to define in order to make it work properly?

Not quite sure...
But the swatches themselves are just standard buttons with their colors set. That's just a temporary kludge in order to get the container functionality flushed out. Once things are a little more settled (like some things I broke that are bugging Bulia) we'll get them switched to a custom widget with better behavior. Even dragging color out from them was just a minor side-effect of working on some other stuff.
Short version: Hang on, it will be fixed soon on our side. :-)

Ok, I think I get it. A theme needs to NOT define pixmaped buttons. My nifty gel buttons were hiding all the colors.
(Dare I say that dragging off doesn't work for me either? It isn't important. I just thought I'd try because I saw the cryptic message on the dev list.)
Thanks, Aaron Spike
