How does one move an object while preserving its gradient fill? Seems like when I move the object, the fill remains stationary while the object moves away.
Thanks, Wayne inkscape 0.42

On the controls bar (above canvas) for the selector tool, on the right, there's a toggle button with gradient. You have this is behavior when this button is off (not pressed).
What's more interesting is why you have it off. It's on by default. Do you remember changing it? We've seen several such reports recently, so this starts to puzzle me.

Thanks for the tip. I must have turned it off in a previous session while exploring inkscape's features. Or perhaps it crashed after I turned it off.

OTOH, moving an object with a gradient and with all four boxes checked will still get uor gradient markers left behind.
Sometimes I wonder if when you select such an object, you have to cast your selection net wide enough to catch your gradient markers as well as the object itself. I'll try that the next time I run into the problem.
But until then, the bug is not fised.

That shouldn't be the case. The selection tool (F1) only keeps track of objects, not handles.

I don't have that problem. It works fine for me as long as I have the gradient box checked. Checking all 4 boxes does not negate the effect of the gradient box.

I cannot reproduce this.

No, of course you don't have to "select" gradient handles with selector.
