Hey folks,
I just unplugged a 2nd monitor from my laptop and re-configured my display to see just the main monitor. Everything works fine accept that when ever I try and bring up the 'fill and stroke' or the 'font' dialog using the key stroke sequence of (Shift+Ctrl+F) or (Shift+Ctrl+T), its like Inkscape still thinks I have a 2nd monitor up and does not display these items on the main screen- they are hidden and unusable. Has anyone encountered this problem before? If so, is there an easy solution?
Thanks-
PDR

The easy solution is to delete your ~/.inkscape/preferences.xml (you lose all your prefs). A slightly less easy solution (without losing prefs) is to edit it and remove the x/y attributes in the element with id="fillstroke".

Thanks Bulia,
but where is the ~/.inkscape/preferences.xml file? I'm on windows XP and I've been searching for it on my 'C' drive with no luck.

Assuming it's a standard XP install...
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Inkscape
Make sure you can view hidden and system files too.

Hey guys,
Ok, I found the .xml file. But when I deleted the numbers from the x/y attributes in the element with id="fillstroke", I restarted my inkscape and the same problem exists. Upon opeing the preference.xml file, those old attributes are right back where they were-
what gives? Should I just go ahead and delete the darn file all together?
Thanks-

Stop deleting !! You can also copy the attributes of another visible window and restart all

Try this one :
1- (In Windows) Open a window and click the upper left corner to open the window-menu, (just on the Inkspape icon).
2- Now try to open the window-menu with the keyboard short-cut (in the italian version of Xp you need to type Alt+spacebar) and use arrows keys to highlight the move command.
3- Press Enter. Now use arrows keys to move the window. When finished press enter again to attach the window.
4- In both cases 1 or 2, you can see where is the command to move the window (in the italian version of Xp it is the second).
5- Open now the window you need to see. If it is out the screen you can move it into using the same keyboard short-cut and other steps as written from 2 to 4
c u from italy
