I am new to inkscape, and don't use chat much, but am very experianced with Linux overall (I've been useing linux as my desktop for over 10 years now), but I am having problems figuring out how to get the shared whiteboard to work.
I got as far as getting a ejabberd server running on my laptop, and I could get two instances of inkscape to see each other enough to be able to do a chat, but I can't get something I draw on one page to show up on another.
looking for info on this type of problem on the inkscape website is frustrating, there are refrences to inkboard, and then after I dig further I see that it's been integrated into inkscape for a couple of years now, but I can't find any mention of it in any documentation or tutorial.
any suggestions?

Did you find this in the .43 release notes: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ReleaseNotes043#Inkboard

no, I had not found these notes, thanks.
however this is the process I was following that wasn't working for me. I never saw any invitation, even when I had the two instances sucessfully talking via chat.
one thing that may be an issue is that I don't use chat for anything else, so I don't have a jabber contacts list to import.
also the dialog boxes are a little different then described
instead of whiteboard->share with user/chatroom I see whiteboard->instant messaging which pops up another window (pedro xmpp client) and from there I have file->connect and after connecting I have file->chat/group chat. after entering the chat I get a 'private chat' window and in there I can chat back and forth between the instances. I then have file->share whiteboard which pops up a 'choose desktop' window, I choose 'blank document' and get a new inkscape window on that instance.
the other instance shows nothing different, also only showing file->share whiteboard (and the choose desktop popup window)
the end result is four main inkscape windows (plus two sets of chat windows), but drawing in all four of them results in no changes to any of the others (starting the share whiteboard also appears to break the chat session, at least no messages get through after I do so)
