Hi,
I have -for some time now- a problem with 4 menus in Inkscape 0.44pre... First I thought it might be a state of the work. Now I want to make sure, that the problem is known
You can see it here: http://hagoschaos.de/test/test.html
It's explaining itself, I think. I'm running WinXP and I'm using the "Daily Inkscape Win32 Build Snapshots"
Regards, Hago

I think that happens if you have a stale menus.xml file around. You can try looking for that file in
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Inkscape
and remove it. or jus tremove the whole directory, if you don't mind losing your preferences.

I have a suspicion that many other users are going to run into this menu.xml problem, and that unless we incorporate some steps to correct this automatically during installation, we may see a LOT of users getting stuck by this.
I'd recommend making this issue a release blocker if we continue finding more users stumbling on this issue. This could be a problem of the scale of that extensions error dialog we had a few releases back.

The writing of menus.xml file never was in a released version, only in CVS for a brief period of time. So we may mention this in release notes, but I don't think it's really a bug worth some special coding around.

Ah, okay that's a relief.
It might be worth adding to the FAQ as well.

I had that exact same problem. I fixed it by:
a) Deleted my ~/.inkscape/ directory b) ./configure; make; make check; make install c) ./configure --prefix=/usr; make; make check; make install
The problem seems to be an incompatibility between the new inkscape and menu definitions from older versions.
I am a bit worried that this issue might bite other users who will be upgrading from a pre-existing version. It would be good to hear from others that have run into and looked into this issue.
